The interim Minister of Agriculture, Tánczos Barna, announced a series of measures aimed at supporting pig farmers in Romania, in the context of current difficulties. The state will allocate up to 14 euros per accommodation place for breeding animals from commercial farms and 20 euros per head for pigs raised in household farms, subject to certain conditions.

Although the normative acts are prepared, they have not yet been approved due to the interim government. Barna emphasized the importance of support for farmers, especially in the fight against African swine fever, which continues to affect the sector. The proposal includes aid for commercial farms, with a total budget of 11 million euros, and highlights the need to increase the consumption of pork from Romania, in order to reduce dependence on imports.

Romania loses approximately 50 million euros annually due to pork imports, and the pig population in the country stands at about 3 million heads.
