Parliament approves new support schemes for pig and cattle farmers amid the crisis in the Middle East

The Romanian Parliament has adopted amendments to the legislation on state aid schemes supporting farmers in the pig and cattle sectors in 2026, amid the crisis in the Middle East. The measures aim to simplify farmers’ access to support and prevent applications from being rejected because of restrictive interpretations.

In the pig sector, legal entities established under Companies Law No. 31/1990 have been explicitly included among the beneficiaries. They will be able to submit applications within ten working days of the new law’s entry into force.

After the legislation is published in the Official Gazette, the Agency for Payments and Intervention in Agriculture will announce the exact application period, deadline and submission procedure.

For cattle farmers, the law clarifies that a livestock holding includes all facilities, buildings and outdoor spaces where animals are kept or handled permanently or temporarily. APIA is also included among the users of the National Animal Identification and Registration System. Farmers will no longer be required to transport supporting documents between institutions, as checks will be carried out through direct data exchanges.
