'Sturgeon batog' has recently been recognized as a product with protected geographical indication (PGI) by the European Commission, thus becoming the 16th Romanian product on this list. Made from farmed sturgeon dorsal fillet, this product is distinguished by its sweet-salty taste and compact texture, the result of the smoking process with hardwood. PGI confirms its connection to the Tulcea region and the Danube Delta, adding value to the Romanian culinary heritage.

The manufacturing process includes stages such as salting, drying, and smoking, which contribute to obtaining the specific taste and color. The sturgeons used are raised in controlled conditions, free from contaminants, thus ensuring the quality of the product. 'Sturgeon batog' PGI joins other recognized Romanian products, such as Topoloveni plum jam and Sibiu salami, and contributes to the protection of natural resources by using farmed sturgeons.
