The state allowance for children will remain unchanged in 2026, for the second consecutive year, contrary to legal provisions that stipulate automatic annual indexing with the average inflation rate. This was blocked by emergency ordinance 156/2024, adopted by the Ciolacu government, and the cancellation of the increase for 2026 is provided in Law 141/2025, known as the 'Bolojan Law', which maintains the allowances at the level from December 2025.

According to the law, the amount of the allowance should be indexed annually, but two indexations, for inflation in 2023 and 2024, have been suspended by political decisions. Currently, the allowances are 292 lei per month for children over 2 years old and 719 lei for those under 2 years old or with disabilities, under conditions where the official inflation was 10.4% in 2023 and 5.6% in 2024.
