PSD interim president Sorin Grindeanu sent a message on Facebook calling for respect for Ion Iliescu and his political legacy, following USR's proposal not to declare national mourning. The government has decided, however, that August 7, 2025 will be a day of national mourning and all institutions will fly the flag at half-mast. Ion Iliescu, Romania's first post-decembrist president, has died at the age of 95 and will be buried in a small ceremony.
