The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, signed on Friday the decrees by which General Vasile Mihai Șomordolea was placed in reserve and released from the position of state advisor, and in his place, Sorin Cîrstea was appointed as state advisor and secretary of the Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT), starting from January 31, 2026.
The new CSAT secretary is a general of the Romanian Army, with extensive experience in psychological operations, including international missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo, and has held leadership positions within the Romanian Army's Psychological Operations Center.
