The residents of Timișoara and the neighboring localities called the emergency number 112 to report a strong smell of smoke. The firefighters began investigations, suspecting that the smoke originates from Serbia, where thousands of hectares of forest and dry vegetation have caught fire.
Following the investigations, ISU Timiș confirmed that no fires were identified in the county, but the smoke emissions could be coming from the vegetation fires in the Dubovac area, Serbia. Firefighters have conducted reconnaissance missions on the ground, considering the large number of reports. In recent days, 45 vegetation fires have been recorded in Serbia, the most severe being in the Deliblato area, where approximately 3,500 hectares have burned.
The Serbian authorities also reported a death caused by carbon monoxide poisoning, and the smoke has reached Bulgaria, where residents are advised to avoid prolonged outdoor activities.
