In May, Romania collected more than 498.3 million packages, with an aluminum cans recycling rate of almost 74%

Environment Minister Mircea Fechet announced that in May 498.3 million packages were collected, equivalent to 17 million per day, thanks to the Guarantee Return Guarantee System (GRS). The recycling rate of aluminum cans increased to almost 74%, compared to 49% last year. In addition, 177 new automated return points have been added and innovative systems have been installed in Vaslui county that allow packaging to be returned without prior separation. Fechet underlines the importance of these initiatives to protect the environment and encourages the extension of the program in rural areas.
