In Sibiu County, the first two deaths caused by influenza in the 2025-2026 flu season have been recorded, both victims being hospitalized in the Infectious Diseases department of the largest hospital in the county. The first death occurred on January 9, 2025, when a 90-year-old man from Cisnădie, unvaccinated against the flu and with multiple comorbidities, was confirmed positive for influenza virus type A.

The second death occurred on January 11, an 86-year-old woman from the municipality of Sibiu, who had the same characteristics. The Sibiu Public Health Directorate emphasizes the importance of flu vaccination as a measure to prevent severe forms of the disease, especially for individuals in at-risk categories. Recommendations include rigorous hygiene, the use of single-use tissues, and wearing a mask in case of symptom onset.
