The first death occurred on January 9, 2025, when a 90-year-old man from Cisnădie, unvaccinated against the flu and with multiple comorbidities, was confirmed positive for influenza virus type A.

The second death occurred on January 11, an 86-year-old woman from the municipality of Sibiu, who had the same characteristics. The Sibiu Public Health Directorate emphasizes the importance of flu vaccination as a measure to prevent severe forms of the disease, especially for individuals in at-risk categories.
