Founder of the Professional Shepherds’ Association, statements following the shepherds’ protest: support for Călin Georgescu and assistance for farms

Daniel Petrescu, founder of the Professional Shepherds’ Association, said after the protest held in Bucharest that he supports Călin Georgescu and called on the future Government to support family farms and Romanian producers. The shepherds’ leader said he had no preference for the position of prime minister, but wanted the Executive to defend the interests of domestic farmers and agricultural producers.

Petrescu’s main demand is the reopening of live animal exports, which he claims were blocked by the authorities. He criticized both the decisions of the European Union and the way governments in Bucharest handle problems in agriculture and livestock farming.

In an interview with Ziare.com, Petrescu said the protest was organized “for justice” and called for the Government and the president to leave office, as well as for clarification of the 2024 presidential election situation. He repeated the message “bring back the second round,” arguing that Romanians must decide who governs them.

Regarding Călin Georgescu, Petrescu said he supported him “as a person,” without claiming to know what he would do in public office. He acknowledged that he might be wrong, but said he appreciated Georgescu’s messages about shepherds, the country, the homeland and peace. The statements were made after the demonstration in Bucharest, where professional demands intersected with political messages.
