According to data published by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, sexually transmitted infections continue to rise alarmingly in Europe, with records registered in 2024.

Over 106,000 cases of gonorrhea have been reported, a 4.3% increase compared to 2023 and an increase of over 300% compared to 2014. Syphilis has recorded nearly 46,000 cases, with an 8% increase compared to the previous year.

Experts emphasize the severe risks associated with these untreated infections, including infertility and heart problems. The increase is influenced by changes in sexual behavior, especially among young people, and reduced condom use.

Additionally, cases of congenital syphilis have alarmingly increased, nearly doubling in one year. ECDC warns that urgent measures are needed to limit the spread of these infections and prevent the worsening of public health issues.
