At a farm in Cluj County, authorities discovered 214 carcasses of bison, buffalo, deer, and roe deer, the animals dying due to lack of food and proper medical care. The Sanitary-Veterinary Directorate identified irregularities and, a month later, imposed fines, but did not inform other institutions for further checks.
Ion Bradea, the director of DSVSA Cluj, admitted that the Animal Police should have been notified. Now, authorities are looking for solutions for the remaining animals that are extremely weakened. The Animal Police imposed fines of 12,000 lei and opened a criminal investigation for failure to provide food and ensure animal welfare. The farm has received large subsidies in the last decade, and several institutions are investigating possible acts of cruelty and health risks.
