Colonel Martin O'Donnell, the spokesperson for NATO SHAPE, stated that the drone shot down on the night from Saturday to Sunday in Romania appears to be of Russian origin.
The incident is under investigation, but the drone illegally entered Romanian airspace and was intercepted by Spanish F-18 aircraft, part of a NATO air policing mission. This is the fourth drone shot down in Romania this year.
The Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, detailed that the drone was discovered 24 km north of Galați and was destroyed between the localities of Băleni and Cudalbi, in an unpopulated area. NATO remains on alert and ready to respond to any threat.
