The Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, announced the withdrawal of Romanian soldiers from Iraq, as part of a NATO-coordinated mission to relocate troops to Europe, in the context of tensions in the Middle East. Miruță specified that 117 Romanian soldiers and two personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been evacuated, and NATO handled the entire evacuation process of the base. Of these, 81 soldiers are now at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey, while the rest are at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, where a plane will depart to bring them home.
NATO confirmed the safe relocation of all personnel from Iraq, and General Alexus Grynkewich thanked everyone involved in this mission. The NATO mission in Iraq will continue to operate from the Allied Joint Force Command in Naples.
