The mission of Romanian firefighters in France, dedicated to supporting wildfire extinguishing efforts, has been extended by two weeks, according to the request of the French authorities and through the activation of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism. The decision was approved on Monday by the National Committee for Emergency Situations (CNSU).
Under the coordination of the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU), the mission will continue by replacing the current contingent with a new group of firefighters from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), who will take over operational responsibilities in the affected areas. This decision underscores Romania's solidarity with European partners and the commitment to contribute to emergency management. Romanian firefighters will collaborate with international teams to limit the effects of wildfires and protect communities in at-risk areas.
