Following attacks reported since October 5 against commercial vessels off the coasts of Romania and Bulgaria, Bulgaria asked NATO for fighter jets and anti-missile and anti-drone systems, arguing that the risk cannot be completely eliminated, only reduced.
Meanwhile, the United States intensified surveillance: a Boeing P-8A Poseidon aircraft operating from Varna conducted patrols after drone attacks, while Moscow had not been officially accused due to a lack of material evidence. At the same time, NATO announced increased surveillance in the Black Sea with aircraft and sensors, including drones and teams specialized in investigating explosives, in response to the intensification of attacks attributed to Russia against Ukraine's export routes.
In this logic of escalation, France condemned the attacks and expressed solidarity with Romania and Bulgaria, calling for a moratorium on attacks in the Black Sea and warning that disruption of civilian navigation represents a threat to EU and NATO security.
