President Nicușor Dan described the continued violation of Romania's airspace by the Russian Federation as "unacceptable and intolerable," after a new drone was shot down on Saturday morning by a Romanian Air Force F-16 aircraft.
The head of state announced that Romania's diplomatic protest against the Russian Federation will be based on the results of the investigations conducted regarding the drones shot down on Thursday and Saturday.
"Romania's diplomatic protest against the Russian Federation will be based on these investigations,” Nicușor Dan specified.
The statement comes after a new drone was intercepted and shot down by the Romanian Air Force over Romania's territorial waters. According to the president, the investigation by the General Prosecutor's Office shows that the drone shot down on Friday is of the Shahed type, used by Russia in the war against Ukraine, and investigations regarding the recent incidents are still ongoing.
We remind that two other drones penetrated Romania's airspace and were shot down by Romanian Air Force F-16 aircraft within less than 24 hours, the first incident occurring on Friday in Buzău County, and the second on Saturday morning, near Sfântu Gheorghe, in the Danube Delta.
