Deputies Călin Groza and Dumitrița Albu, members of the extremist POT party, were involved in a controversial incident on January 30, when they visited the Iranian embassy, amidst a massacre of protesters ordered by the regime in Tehran. Groza, who presents himself as an independent deputy, posted on Facebook images from the meeting with the Iranian ambassador, including a photograph featuring a gift received, with an image of the supreme leader Khamenei in the background.

In his post, Groza emphasized the importance of dialogue and understanding in the historical context of Iran, ignoring the gravity of the current situation. According to the HRANA organization, the crackdown on protests has led to over 3,000 deaths, the majority being protesters. Romania officially condemned these actions through the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the European Parliament adopted a similar resolution on January 22.
