According to a recent Eurostat statistic, Romania ranks first in the European Union regarding the price of household electricity, with a rate of 49.52 euros for 100 kWh. This significant increase occurred in the second half of 2025, under the leadership of Prime Minister Bolojan, when the cancellation of the price cap on energy was announced starting July 1. The increase of 58.6% is the highest in the euro area, compared to other countries such as the Czech Republic (38.65 euros) and Poland (37.15 euros). In contrast, Malta, Hungary, and Finland have the most affordable rates, with prices of 14.09 euros, 15.10 euros, and 18.77 euros for 100 kWh, respectively.

Additionally, Austria and Ireland have recorded significant increases in rates, while Cyprus, France, and Denmark have had considerable reductions. This situation highlights the challenges faced by Romanian consumers in the context of rising energy costs.
