Romania won first place at the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad for juniors

Romania won first place at the 30th edition of the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad for juniors (JBMO), held from June 15-20, 2026, in Buzău. The Romanian team, consisting of 12 students, won five gold medals, five silver medals, and two bronze medals. Andrei Nemțișor won the gold medal with a maximum score, while other gold medals were won by his teammates.

Romania was the leader in the national ranking, accumulating 202 points, followed by Bulgaria and Turkey. A total of 22 countries participated in the competition, and the Romanian teams were led by experienced teachers. The scientific coordination was provided by the Romanian Mathematical Society, and the organization was carried out by the Ministry of Education. This achievement highlights the educational excellence and talent of young Romanian mathematicians.
