Commander Sandu Valentin Mateiu, an officer with 20 years of experience in military intelligence, stated that Romania will not intervene militarily to support the Republic of Moldova in the event of an attack from Russia. He explained that such an action would compromise Romania's right to be defended by NATO, according to international commitments.
Romania will be able to provide support through military cooperation, joint training, and assistance in the field of defense, but without directly involving itself in a conflict. Mateiu emphasized that, in the event of a crisis, Romania will protect its citizens and those in Moldova, but will not intervene militarily. He warned about the intensification of Russia's hybrid actions, which seek to destabilize the Republic of Moldova and affect relations with Romania, using pro-Russian political forces and manipulation.
