According to Eurostat data, Romania recorded the highest growth in real income per capita in the European Union, with a growth of 134% between 2004 and 2024, far exceeding the EU average of 22%. This purchasing power has increased significantly, contradicting nostalgic messages that idealize the communist period. In contrast, other European countries, such as Lithuania and Poland, have had notable growth, but lower than Romania.

On the other hand, TikTok has become a major channel for spreading pro-communist nostalgia, especially among young people, with clips presenting Nicolae Ceaușescu's regime in a favorable light. IICCMER's analysis highlights the risks of this phenomenon for the civic education of young people, calling for a swift response from authorities to combat misinformation. Approximately 200 clips have accumulated 130 million views, highlighting the scale of online propaganda.
