The President of the Competition Council, Bogdan Chirițoiu, stated that Romania needs to liberalize the gas market, considering that prices have returned to pre-crisis levels. He emphasized that the country is the last in Europe to maintain a generalized support scheme, which has attracted an infringement from the European Commission.

Chirițoiu suggested that Romgaz could influence the decrease in gas prices in the market, similar to the role of Hidroelectrica in the electricity market, by offering competitive prices. The Prime Minister mentioned that the liberalization, scheduled for April 1, 2026, could be postponed, but that decisions will be made soon to ensure predictability. Additionally, the president of ANRE, George Niculescu, highlighted that there are gas supply offers below the capped price, suggesting that some current offers are unserious.
