The Competition Council is discussing with the Ministry of Energy the provision of state guarantees for renewable energy producers, enabling them to supply energy at lower prices to large industrial consumers. The announcement was made on Friday by the institution’s president, Bogdan Chirițoiu, at an industry event.
The mechanism is provided for under European legislation and is intended to facilitate agreements through which energy produced from renewable sources can reach large companies at a lower cost. The measure could support industrial competitiveness and the development of green energy projects.
According to Bogdan Chirițoiu, the guarantees would be designed so that they do not have a direct impact on the state budget. This aspect is important for maintaining Romania’s budget deficit target. Discussions between the Competition Council and the Ministry of Energy are ongoing, while details on the mechanism’s implementation are yet to be established.
