Romania is in a paradoxical situation, with territorial defense against external threats, such as Russian drones, being contradicted by a nationalist-homophobic trend within the country. Last weekend, the LGBTQ+ march in Oradea was marked by controversy, with Mayor Florin Birta attempting to stop the event for the fourth consecutive year, citing 'public morals'. This attitude was supported by political parties, including PSD and AUR, which reject sexual minorities, while PNL chose not to criticize the local leader. At the same time, in Berlin, a tragic incident occurred during a parade, highlighting global tensions related to LGBTQ+ rights. This anti-European rift seems to be extending from Budapest to Bucharest, and international reactions suggest that the defense of the LGBTQ+ community is more likely to come from outside the country.
