The Coalition for Road Safety has announced that, although Romania has made progress in reducing serious road accidents, risks are reconfiguring, affecting other categories of drivers. Romania ranks first in the European Union for road mortality, with 77 deaths per million inhabitants, almost double the EU average. Analysis of data from 2015-2024 shows a reduction in serious accidents among young people and young adults, but an increase in minor accidents, especially among middle-aged and older drivers.

Minor accidents among drivers over 65 have doubled, and those in the 45-64 age category have increased significantly. Additionally, insurance companies have managed an increased number of claims, confirming the high frequency of road incidents. The coalition calls for the involvement of institutions and civil society during the National Road Safety Week, a project aimed at prevention and education in traffic, with the goal of reducing the number of accidents in Romania by 2030.
