Romania has exported 4,000 sheep to Algeria, using cargo planes for the first time, according to the announcement from the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA). The sheep arrived in Algeria in just two and a half hours, and three more shipments are scheduled for the future. Algeria has decided to ensure its entire sheep supply for the year 2026, including for the Eid el-Adha celebration, exclusively from Romania, due to the superior quality of Romanian sheep meat.
The president of ANSVSA, Alexandru Bociu, emphasized the importance of logistical efficiency and animal safety in this type of transport, which is much faster compared to maritime transport, which can take up to 8 days. Exports of sheep to Algeria began last year, and in the last 30 days, over 600,000 sheep have been exported, all transported under strict safety conditions.
