The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, explained that discussions for developing a processing project for certain ores at the Feldioara factory in Brașov County in collaboration with an American company have been initiated and that Romania is involved in international discussions regarding the creation of a common mechanism for managing critical materials, in partnership with the United States and the European Union.
These discussions were recently initiated with the aim of forming a new global organization dedicated to the trade of critical metals.
At Feldioara, Brașov County, a processing project for ores could be developed in collaboration with an American company, considering Nuclearelectrica's expertise in uranium ore processing. The project is in the discussion stage, coordinated by the American company, and aims at the exploitation of rare minerals.
"At Feldioara, there is a branch of Nuclearelectrica where we have the expertise to process uranium ore and other metals found in that ore, and when such an agreement between a large American company and Nuclearelectrica for the processing of metals, uranium ores, and others at Feldioara will materialize, it will be very interesting for Romania," said Nicușor Dan on Radio Romania Actualități regarding the statements of the Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, about an agreement for rare earths extracted from Greenland to be processed at Feldioara.
Nicușor Dan emphasized that energy will be a central point in future economic collaborations, mentioning the importance of reactors 3 and 4 at Cernavodă. Romania is considered a leader in the EU regarding rare minerals, and collaboration with international partners is essential for reducing dependence on critical minerals from China.
