Bogdan Ivan, the Minister of Energy, stated that Romania is asserting its role in global energy discussions, following his participation in the Economic Forum in Davos. He emphasized the importance of the country's involvement in international debates regarding energy security and the transition to cleaner energy sources. Ivan discussed with Rafael Mariano Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, about the role of nuclear energy in the Romanian economy, highlighting that it is a strategic decision for the country's energy security.

The minister warned that Romania is facing an unsustainable energy situation, with a constant domestic consumption exceeding 9,000 MW and significant imports during peak periods. In this context, the Ministry of Energy has established strategic directions, including the construction of two nuclear units in Cernavodă and the development of small modular reactors. Ivan emphasized that current decisions will have a long-term impact and must be made proactively, not under the pressure of crises.
