The Government of Romania has approved, at the proposal of the Ministry of Environment, the National Strategy for Biodiversity Conservation 2026-2030, which will allow access to PNRR funds.

In the government meeting on July 23, Buzoianu announced the approval of the National Strategy for Biodiversity Conservation 2026–2030, proposed by the Ministry of Environment. This strategy will allow Romania to access PNRR funds of over 972.4 million euros, contributing to essential investments for communities. The strategy establishes a clear framework for protecting biodiversity, including measures with responsible institutions, deadlines, funding sources, and outcome indicators.

The document contains 11 national objectives focused on ecosystem conservation, reducing the risk of species extinction, and the responsible use of natural resources. Among the proposed measures are the restoration of degraded ecosystems, improving the conservation status of species, and combating invasive species. The action plan will transform these objectives into verifiable measures, with periodic monitoring of progress and interim evaluations for adjusting strategies.
