Romania intends to enter the rare earth processing business, starting with a factory in Brașov County. These rare minerals, brought from Greenland by Americans, will be refined for use in the aerospace industry, including in Elon Musk's projects, according to the Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan. The uranium concentrate processing plant in Feldioara, a subsidiary of Nuclearelectrica, will be expanded to increase refining capacity. Nuclearelectrica has formed a partnership with Critical Metals, which operates a mine in Greenland, considering the global demand for rare earths.

These chemical elements are essential for modern technology, and Romania holds strategic resources, with projects declared priorities by the European Commission. The European Union aims to reduce imports of critical materials, and Romania could develop an integrated supply chain in the rare earth sector, from extraction to consumption.
