REPER has submitted a request to the Romanian Academy to sanction academician Eugen Mihaiescu, accused of discrediting the Romanian state by publishing a controversial image from the July 20 protest. The allegedly doctored image was used to compare the gendarme's actions to the crimes of communism. REPER considers that such actions undermine trust in state institutions and contribute to destabilizing the country, and calls for a public demarcation of the Academy from anti-national behaviour.
