Border guards discovered 15 million cigarettes hidden in a container arriving from the United Arab Emirates, estimating the value of the haul at €4 million.

Following a thorough check, border guards, together with customs inspectors, discovered 15,500,000 cigarettes hidden in a container which, according to the documents, was supposed to contain rolls of paper. The container, which arrived from the United Arab Emirates, was destined for a trading company in Romania. The seizure, estimated at almost €4m, is one of the biggest this year and investigations are continuing for smuggling and using false documents.
