PNL MEP Rareş Bogdan criticized the statements of the German ambassador to Chişinău, Hubert Knirsch, who questioned the common identity of Romanians and Moldovans. Bogdan states that these comments are the result of the deterioration of relations between Romania and the USA, considering them unacceptable reactions.
He emphasizes that historians confirm that Romanians and Moldovans are the same people, separated only by political vicissitudes. Bogdan refers to historical events, including the union of Bessarabia with Romania in 1918 and its annexation by the Russian Empire in 1812. He also criticizes the theory of separate identities, promoted by Soviet researchers in the 20th century. In the end, Bogdan urges the ambassador not to contest the Romanian identity, reaffirming that on both sides of the Prut River, the same nation exists.
