Heavy rain and strong winds prompted 57 firefighter interventions in Bucharest and Ilfov on Monday, between 10:00 and 18:00, during the yellow warning for significant rainfall and strengthening winds.
In the capital, the weather phenomena toppled 43 trees, detached six construction elements and tore down a billboard. As a result of the incidents, 30 cars were damaged. Firefighters also intervened in seven cases in Ilfov County to remove fallen trees.
The Bucharest-Ilfov Emergency Situations Inspectorate recommends that people postpone outdoor activities and avoid working in open spaces or at heights during the bad weather. ISUBIF urges residents to close their windows, secure objects outside and avoid areas with trees, utility poles, billboards or other structures vulnerable to wind.
The authorities also recommend cleaning ditches and drainage channels to facilitate water runoff. If water levels in waterways rise, people are advised not to attempt to cross them and not to approach the banks.
