The police and prosecutors carried out 29 searches in Bucharest and Ilfov, in a case of gold smuggling, where over 16 kilograms of unmarked jewelry were confiscated, valued at over 5.5 million lei. The investigation targets four individuals, three of whom have been placed under judicial control, while one is under house arrest.
The actions took place on March 30 and 31, focusing on qualified smuggling offenses. The searches targeted both properties of commercial companies that trade in precious metals, as well as locations of individuals involved in illicit circuits. Following the actions, significant amounts of cash and 14K gold without a hallmark were found.
The investigation revealed that, between September 2025 and March 2026, the four individuals possessed and sold smuggled gold jewelry, generating revenues of over 2 million lei. The Public Ministry reaffirms its commitment to firmly combat smuggling of jewelry made from precious metals.
