The Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, had his first official reaction following the incident with the drone that crashed in Galați. He immediately informed the President of Romania and NATO allies and emphasized that, although the fighter jets had authorization to fire, the intervention could have caused damage in Galați or could have been considered an interference in the war in Ukraine.
"The war at Romania's borders is a reality. Just as real is our responsibility to make rational decisions based on facts, not on emotion or speculation. Following the incident last night, I immediately informed the President of Romania and our NATO allies. I had a phone conversation this morning with Mark Rutte, the NATO Secretary General, to whom I reiterated how important it is that what we officially requested at the allied level be implemented in the Dobrogea area until the anti-drone capabilities recently commanded by the Ministry of Defense are delivered," said Radu Miruță in a Facebook post.
He acknowledged that Romania needs more air defense systems, mentioning that equipping the Army is his main priority. In recent months, the Ministry of Defense has obtained 8 anti-drone defense systems and is working on additional measures to strengthen security on the Eastern Flank, which will be announced soon.
