Radu Miruță, the interim Minister of Defense, announced on Friday that he has notified the DNA to investigate 18 people from the Ministry of National Defense (MApN), including a brigadier general, for the illegal approval of the construction of two blocks located less than 100 meters from an ammunition depot in Pitești.

The constructions, which include 128 apartments, were illegally approved, despite two initial negative opinions from 2019, and the Pitești City Hall had signed an agreement that imposed a distance of 200 meters from the ammunition depot.

Miruță also requested an analysis regarding the relocation of the depot, considering the risks associated with the constructions.

"There are 18 people from the Ministry of Defense involved. All have been sent for investigation to the DNA. People with lower ranks, but also including people with the rank of brigadier general. The approval of such decisions passed through their hands. Additionally, I have asked the Chief of the Defense Staff for an analysis and a plan to see how and at what cost that depot will be relocated from there, if that will be the decision. We are not in a regular situation with two blocks, 128 apartments, next to a depot, where we know what is there. We are also notifying the City Hall, the County Council, and the Construction Inspectorate," added Miruță.
