Radu Marinescu, the Minister of Justice, stated that judges maintain their intellectual and professional capacity until the age of 50. This statement came in the context of a question regarding the retirement age of judges in Romania, who retire at 48 years old, compared to judges in other countries, such as Venezuela. Radu Marinescu emphasized that the retirement age in the public sector should be extended to 65 years, according to the government program.
He mentioned that many judges continue to work even after reaching retirement age. He also addressed the issue of the constitutionality of the current retirement law, awaiting the decision of the Constitutional Court. Marinescu highlighted the importance of objectivity and impartiality in justice, stating that it should not be rushed or delayed, but should provide correct and well-argued solutions.
