The ministers of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) submitted their resignations from the Government on Thursday, emphasizing that the act "represents the political act through which the party's decision to withdraw political support from Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan was formalized.

PSD announced the resignation of the ministers through a press release shortly after the announcement made by Deputy Prime Minister Marian Neacșu, who stated that the resignations of the PSD secretaries of state would be submitted simultaneously with the motion of censure.

According to PSD, "at this moment, the Prime Minister no longer has the support of a parliamentary majority, which means that he no longer has the democratic legitimacy to exercise the leadership function of the Government of Romania."

"Also, the resigning PSD ministers will continue to fulfill their governmental duties until the legal procedures are completed, which end with the publication in the Official Gazette of the presidential decree regarding the vacancy of the positions. During this period, PSD ministers will no longer participate in government meetings, but will delegate representation to the secretaries of state appointed by the other parties in the governing coalition."

This decision comes after the social democrats withdrew political support for Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.

The procedure announced by the Government spokesperson

The Government spokesperson, Ioana Dogioiu, explained that the Executive will send the resignations and proposals for interim replacements to replace the PSD ministers at Cotroceni. She states that the Government has full powers, the interim positions are at the ministries.

"The legal procedure, because I can only talk about it at this moment, is that after these resignations are submitted and registered at the Prime Minister's Chancellery, at the moment - we will see, I told you, I do not have an official confirmation at this moment - together with the proposals for interim replacements will be sent to the Cotroceni Palace, to the Presidency of Romania, for the purpose of issuing the approval and, of course, the decrees of dismissal, respectively of the appointment in office of the interim replacements. After which the Government will continue its normal activity.  This is what the Prime Minister also emphasized at the end of the government meeting: there are very important projects, the most important is, of course, the PNRR."
