The National Council for Disability in Romania is organizing a protest on Tuesday in Victory Square, where approximately 1,000 people are expected to participate. The main grievances concern the low level of allowances for people with disabilities and the recent changes regarding their taxation. The President of the Council, Daniela Tontsch, stated that people with disabilities are at the limit of endurance, experiencing an unprecedented regression in the last 20 years. The current allowances are equivalent to those from 2024, while prices have increased significantly. Tontsch emphasized that approximately 10,000 people with very severe disabilities have been downgraded, thus losing their personal assistance and allowances.

Protesters are demanding a return to full tax exemptions and the cancellation of medical evaluation criteria, which they consider abusive. Tontsch also mentioned that a memorandum with the demands has been sent to the Government, requesting a direct meeting with its representatives to discuss the issues faced by people with disabilities.
