The seven privately managed pension funds (Pillar 2) have marked substantial growth in the first three months of this year, after achieving the best results in the 17-year history of the system in 2025. In Pillar 2, there are over 8.3 million participants who automatically contribute 4.75% of their gross salary.

At the end of March 2026, the average value of a participant's asset in the privately managed pension system was 25,215 lei, registering a 31% increase compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data from the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF). During the first quarter of 2026, net personal asset payments were made to participants amounting to 875 million lei for 21,468 participants and beneficiaries, which means an average pension of almost 41,000 lei, a significantly higher level than the average value of accounts in the system.
