Priest Visarion Alexa was sentenced to two and a half years of suspended prison for sexual assault, having the obligation to pay damages.

The Bucharest Court of Appeal upheld the conviction of priest Visarion Alexa to two and a half years of suspended prison sentence after he was accused of sexual assault against a parishioner who came for confession. The court rejected the appeals of both the priest and the victim, obliging Alexa to pay 2,700 lei in material damages and 35,000 lei in moral damages. The priest, known in the Capital, admitted his actions in front of a commission of the Archdiocese of Bucharest, being suspended from service.
