At the request of the General Prosecutor's Office, the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) ordered the preventive arrest of prosecutors Ștefan Gigi Valentin and Niță Teodor for a period of 30 days, starting from May 15, 2026. The decision was made following accusations of influence peddling and incitement to abuse of office. According to the court, Gigi Valentin was involved in acts of influence peddling, receiving a bribe of approximately 60,000 euros, while Niță Teodor allegedly intervened to protect a company associated with a close person. The acts are said to have taken place between 2019 and 2025, and the prosecutors are accused of acting against an innocent person, ordering their referral to trial. The ICCJ's decision is not final and can be contested within 48 hours.
