The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) proposes a new method of sanctioning drivers, through the generation of a QR code by police officers, which will allow them to pay fines on the spot, with a card. This initiative aims to digitize the payment process, thus eliminating the need for cash payments. Additionally, MAI suggests equipping buses and trams in major cities with surveillance cameras, in order to fine drivers who violate traffic rules. Chief Bogdan Despescu mentioned that violations will be documented through images captured by these cameras. Furthermore, MAI has launched an online platform where drivers can check the status of their driving license and penalty points, with functionalities available from March 6, 2026.
