The Senate voted on the legislative bill requiring the use of QR codes on pension slips intended for transport operators

The Senate adopted, with 106 votes in favor and two abstentions, a bill introducing QR codes or barcodes for the electronic validation of entitlement to transport benefits. The legislative proposal will be debated by the Chamber of Deputies, which is the decision-making body.

Under the bill as amended by the Senate, transport benefits may be granted on the basis of the information document on the amounts paid, issued by the competent territorial pension house, or on the basis of the payment slip for benefits issued by the paying institution.

The documents must include an automatic identification element, namely a QR code or a barcode. This will allow transport operators to electronically verify beneficiaries’ entitlements and will serve as a means of validating the benefits.

The initiators argue that the lack of a standardized technical identifier makes it more difficult to verify entitlements and carry out the reimbursement process. The introduction of the codes is expected to enable the unique identification of beneficiaries and interoperability with the information systems of public institutions.

The bill was initiated by lawmakers from across the political spectrum and will proceed to the debate and final vote stage in the Chamber of Deputies.
