The scandal broke out in Bacău, where a police chief commissioner from the County Police Inspectorate was placed under house arrest, accused of taking bribes. The man, head of the economic crime investigation office, is suspected of having received 1,000 lei from a person to intervene in a case and favor a beneficial solution. Initially, the officer was detained for 24 hours, and later the court decided on house arrest as part of an investigation coordinated by the National Anti-Corruption Directorate. On April 2, 2026, prosecutors from the Bacău Territorial Service presented the proposal for house arrest to the Bacău Tribunal, which was accepted for a period of 30 days. This situation raises questions about the integrity of law enforcement institutions and how economic crime investigation activities are conducted.
