Alexandru Muraru stated that the former Minister of Justice, Cătălin Predoiu, cannot be held responsible for the actions of the magistrates in the judicial system, in the context of the criticisms directed at the amendments to the justice laws from 2022. Muraru explained that Predoiu had the task of implementing a legislative package requested by the European Commission, under the conditions in which Romania was facing obligations related to the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism.
He emphasized that the responsibility for how the laws are applied lies with the judicial system, including the CSM and the courts. Muraru acknowledged that Predoiu will have to answer questions upon his return from the USA, but insisted that culpabilities must be analyzed individually, not collectively. He also mentioned the need for a comprehensive legislative reform to improve the judicial system.
