The PNL has filed a lawsuit against the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) after it ruled that the party must return 14 million lei of the public subsidy used in the 2024 presidential campaign. The action is aimed to buy time, given the party's debts of more than 150 million lei. The PNL leadership claims that a government ordinance would allow them to reimburse, but AEP has concluded that the subsidy funds are not reimbursable. The PNL is in a more complicated financial situation compared to PSD and USR, which have managed the subsidies differently.
