The Senate of Romania has adopted a bill that stipulates that the first day of school for preschool, primary, and secondary education should be a day off for parents.

This initiative will be submitted to the final vote in the Chamber of Deputies. The initiators argue that the opening ceremony of the school year is an emotional moment for both children and parents, who face questions related to their children's adaptation to the new environment. Although the first day of school coincides with a working day, many parents find themselves needing to take leave from their vacation or to request time off, and sometimes employers refuse these requests. The legislative project aims to provide parents with the necessary support to be present at this important event in their children's lives.
